The Dancing Oaks is a custom Blue Ridge Timberwrights design. Being located in the same county as our shop, we were able to have more of a hands-on approach with the construction of the entire home. Architectural features such as the reclaimed timbers incorporated into the master bathroom vanity or changing from a closed stairway to the gorgeous open stair design were easily accomplished with our shop, less than 15 minutes away.

Our homeowner, one of whom is an engineer, was looking for a highly energy-efficient home. This goal was achieved with the SIP wall and roof panels as well as the geothermal heat pump system. While superior insulation values are indeed desirable, the leakiness, or Air Exchange Rate per hour (AER) of the home, is of greater importance. With properly installed SIPs, the home was so “tight” that a motorized damper was installed to bring fresh air into the home. With two vertical wells that extend 200 feet under the ground, the geothermal heat pump system uses the Earth’s natural temperature to help heat and cool the home’s air. This efficient dwelling received a Gold rating in the EarthCraft green building program.

This mixed oak frame consisting of 102 timbers, was erected in 4 days, all while being filmed for a program on the HGTV network. This home has also been featured in print in the Timber Home Living magazine.

The total square footage, as shown, is 2,015 (excluding porches and decks).
